Librarian/Archivist (One Year Temporary Appt.)

Ohio University Libraries has a one-year temporary opening for 
Librarian/Archivist, and seeks candidates who are committed to working 
effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. The 
successful candidate will provide reference assistance to users of 
archives/special collections, to facilitate their ability to identify, 
locate, retrieve, and evaluate library and other information sources; will 
assist with instruction/presentations to classes in fine arts, English, 
history, and other subject areas; manage and facilitate access to 
rare/scarce archival/historical materials, and may serve as bibliographer 
in support of an academic unit.

Duties include:
    * Perform general Archives reference duties, including weekend hours, 
assisting users with research needs.
    * Present class lectures, demonstrations, workshops, and other 
instructional sessions to teach the use, understanding, and evaluation of 
archives and special collections, library, and other information resources.
    * Manage Archives newspaper collections, including prep and quality 
control for binding and preservation microfilming.
    * May serve as bibliographer for an academic area of the university.
    * May participate in other departmental duties such as maintaining the 
Archives Reference collection, contributing to the Web site and processing 
collections.

Qualifications
Required:
    * Master's degree in Library Science from a library school accredited 
by the American Library Association OR advanced degree with archives 
coursework required.
    * Organizational, linguistic, computer, and analytical skills
    * Instructional skills to assist in effective use of archives/special 
collections.
    * Communication and public relations skills
    * Ability to work efficiently and effectively within teams.
Preferred: Public service experience, preferably with archives or special 
collections, reference, and library instruction responsibilities.

Salary & Benefits
Minimum salary is $35,000; salary negotiable based on experience and 
education. Ohio University employees enjoy a liberal benefits package,

Institutional Information
The Robert E. and Jean R. Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections 
is the principle repository for rare materials that support the education, 
research, and creative mission of Ohio University. Ohio University Archives 
is the official repository for records of enduring value; University 
Records Management establishes retention and destruction standards for 
University records; Manuscript Collections within the Mahn Center represent 
unique, primary source materials of organizational and personal records 
such as typescripts, letters, diaries, documents, photographs, maps, 
scrapbooks, and memorabilia; and the rare book and special collections are 
broad in scope.  Fifty-nine book collections include 19th and 20th century 
authors, early science, Ohioana, and a large collection of imprints from 
the hand press period. Special collections contain incunabula, broadsides, 
ephemera and artifacts.

Libraries:  The Ohio University Libraries are in the midst of an ambitious 
program of innovation highlighted by a newly opened state-of-the-art 
Learning Commons and a bolstered commitment to a continuing high level of 
service. Alden Library, the main facility on the Ohio University Athens 
campus, includes over 2 million volumes with 50 professionals and 65 
support staff.  The Ohio University Libraries belong to the Association of 
Research Libraries (ARL) and enjoy the rich benefits of a stable materials 
budget of approximately $5 million per year and membership in OhioLINK, the
