The University of Akron's Archival Services is seeking two dynamic
professionals to help shape its service program.  The successful
candidates will have a strong customer service ethic and demonstrated
appreciation for and effectiveness with a diverse clientele; ability to
work effectively in a team environment and independently; basic
knowledge of archival principles and practices; excellent organizational
and communication skills; advanced computer skills; and the ability to
stand/walk on rough surfaces for long periods, bend and/or stoop, and
lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.

 

University Records Manager (minimum salary $36,000): Under the direction
of the Head of Archival Services, implements and administers a
campus-wide records management program including developing and
monitoring operating procedures for the creation, storage, retrieval,
classification, and destruction of records in all formats, including
electronic; promotes and maintains schedules and databases; provides
advise, consultation, and training to campus; answers information
inquiries and assists archives with other projects as needed.

 

Required: Relevant Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of 2 years experience in
records management. Demonstrated knowledge of basic records management
theories and principles.

 

Preferred:  MA in public history or MLS with archival/records management
coursework. Experience at a University or local government archives;
experience with teaching/training and public speaking; ability to drive
and elegibility to obtain an Ohio driver's license. 

 

Senior Archives Associate (minimum salary $30,000): Arranges and
describes archival collections.  Provides historical research assistance
and records for patrons.  Maintains archival database.  Prepares and
installs historical exhibits.  Digitizes collections and creates
metadata work.  Works with Head of Archival Services on retention and
disposal of archival records.  Assists in planning and overall operation
of archives.  Trains and supervises student assistants.  Manages
department in Head's absence.  Gathers and organizes statistics and
prepares reports.  

 

Required: Relevant Bachelor's Degree.  Minimum of 2 years experience in
arranging and describing archival collections.  Some knowledge of local,
regional, and national history.  Ability to design and install
historical exhibits.  Ability to organize records, statistics, and
collections; familiarity with historical research methods. 

 

Preferred: MA in public history and/or ALA accredited MLS with
concentration in archival studies.  Basic knowledge of archival
appraisal.  Knowledge and ability to use various scanning equipment and
software.  Knowledge of basic archival preservation/conservation
methods.
