2008 NEH PRESERVATION ASSISTANCE GRANTS

WHAT IS THE NEH PRESERVATION ASSISTANCE GRANT (PAG) PROGRAM? 

--- The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) will award grants of
up
to $6,000 on a non-matching basis to support the preservation of
materials
in collections-holding organizations.  A focus of this program is to
promote
preservation planning and preservation training within the country's
SMALLER
institutions. Last year 50% of proposals in this category were funded.

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE ELIGIBLE?

--- General preservation and conservation surveys conducted by a
preservation professional

--- Attendance at preservation workshops and training programs, now
including training in best practices for digitizing collections

--- Consultations with preservation professionals to develop a plan to
address a specific 

preservation problem, including digital preservation issues

 

HOW CAN I APPLY?  

--- 2008 grant application and guidelines will soon be available at
NEH's
Web site, www.neh.gov <http://www.neh.gov/> . Applicants will be asked
to
describe in detail the nature and significance of their collection. Call

to discuss your project and receive helpful tips for writing a
successful

HOW CAN THE NORTHEAST DOCUMENT CONSERVATION CENTER (NEDCC) HELP?   

--- NEDCC is a premier center for consultation and training on
preservation
and digitization of 

paper-based collections and photographs. NEDCC staff is available to
support
you in planning your grant application and in carrying it out. 


--- General preservation surveys and digital preservation surveys 


--- On-site consultations regarding a specific collection or concern 


--- Preservation and digitization workshops and conferences throughout
the
