Subject: State Archivist Resignation

I regret to announce that Jelain Chubb, State Archivist of Ohio, has
resigned from her position with the Ohio Historical Society.

Jelain joined the organization in July 2006. Shortly into her
employment Jelain proved to be an outstanding advocate for the State
Archives and over the years has helped grow the Society's archival
program. Jelain built a strong staff, knowledgeable in current archival
procedures, and improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the
operations by implementing new guidelines for records transfers and
processing. She forged solid relationships with key state legislators,
helping to obtain additional funding for Ohio's state archives program,
and worked to raise awareness of the need for increased funding of
public records programs at both the state and local government levels.
As deputy coordinator for the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board,
she reenergized the group by securing the appointment of members that
have diverse but complementary experience with historical records,
facilitated the creation of a new strategic plan, and obtained funding
for the plan's implementation through a $20,000 grant from the National
Historical Publications and Records Commission.

Jelain is very active in national archival organizations, including the
Society of American Archivists, Council of State Archivists, and
National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators
where she serves on the Board of Directors. As a member of a national
task force, she has been very successful advocating for passage of the
Preserving the American Historical Record Act , which if approved by
Congress, would provide significant funding for archives and records
programs throughout Ohio and across the country. Jelain also
represented the State Archives on the steering committee for the Ohio
Electronic Records Committee. Her service at OHS has been greatly
appreciated and will be missed.

Jelain will stay on with the Society through June 26, 2009. Please join
us in wishing her well in her future endeavors.

A national search for a new State Archivist will be conducted soon. In
preparation for the search and in order to identify the skills,
experience and knowledge needed in the next incumbent, we may be
contacting you to obtain your advice and input.

In the meantime, should you have any questions do not hesitate to
contact us.
