It's fun to see what other states are doing.

Please excuse cross postings.

It's the season for American Archives Month 2009 and we've been out
gathering updates for the

-- Directory of Archives Month activities at
_http://www.statearchivists.org/archivesmonth/AAM-directory.htm_ and the

-- Archives Week/Month poster gallery at
_http://www.statearchivists.org/archivesmonth/AAM-posters.htm_
<http://www.statearchivists.org/archivesmonth/AAM-posters.htm>.

The posters are as colorful as ever. It's always fun to see the variety
of themes and activities that our colleagues across the country are
using to bring attention to the important work that we do as a profession.

As we do every year, CoSA has compiled the 2009 information currently in
the directory from the great resources and posters that have already
been sent to us and from what we can find online. Did we catch yours? We
hope you'll send additional announcements, links, and other information
so we can include them too. And let us know if anything already on our
pages needs correcting!

Also be sure to send an image of your poster if you have one. The Poster
Gallery has grown so large that it's now presented in two sections:
2005-09 on one page, 2004 and earlier on a second. There are now nearly
150 wonderful posters to view.

** Send all of your contributions to CoSA's Program Assistant, Becky
Julson: ___rjulson at statearchivists.org_

At least five states have developed guides to help repositories organize
Archives Month activities: Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia,
and Wisconsin. Much of the advice they provide is easily transferred
across state lines, so if you're thinking about starting an Archives
Month observance in your repository, you're sure to find something in
one of these to help. See

Please be sure to check out SAA's American Archives Month Public
Relations Kit, "Celebrating the American Record" at
___http://www.archivists.org/archivesmonth/2009_AAMKit.pdf_
<http://www.archivists.org/archivesmonth/2009_AAMKit.pdf>, a wonderful
resource for all of us as we prepare for outreach efforts in October-or
any time of the year!

If you're curious about how Archives Week/Month got started and evolved,
you'll find background information and articles on its history at
_http://www.statearchivists.org/archivesmonth/AAM-bkgd.htm_
<http://www.statearchivists.org/archivesmonth/AAM-bkgd.htm%20> .

Thanks to everyone involved for your commitment to this important
collective endeavor. We hope you all have a great time spreading the
word about the importance of archives!
