Special Collections Associate

Position:
University Libraries at Kent State University has a full time opening in the Special Collections Department. The "Special Collections Associate" provides key operational support services to the Department of Special Collections and Archives. The position also provides basic reference services and assists in a variety of routine and special departmental projects. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Special Collections and Archives.

Typical Responsibilities:
-- Provide general office management support including answering phones, scheduling meetings, making photocopies, sending out mailings, and generating documents such as correspondence, event flyers, and statistical reports
-- Perform basic reference services to onsite and offsite users on an as-needed basis
-- Process and file archival collection materials and create / update finding aids
-- Perform copy cataloging and work on special cataloging clean-up projects
-- Update Web pages and Web-based finding aids using the library Content Management System (CMS)
-- Order departmental supplies and maintain accurate and appropriate supply inventories
-- Monitor the departmental student employment budget usage on a monthly basis
-- Maintain the department Location Guide database and assist in the physical configuration of the collection storage, including performing shelf readings as needed
-- Assist the Head of Special Collections and Archives in organizing, maintaining and reviewing unit administrative files, including those in electronic format
-- Assist in other general and specialized department projects as needed
-- Perform related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements Include:
-- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college.
-- Requires two to three years prior related work experience - preferably in a library or archives setting.
-- Prefer prior public service or customer service, cataloging, archival processing and supervisory experience.
-- Prefer prior experience monitoring and reconciling staff hours to a budget line.

Must Be Able To:
-- Learn to use various computer applications and online systems, including Web content management system, in-house databases, and library cataloging systems
-- Direct others - including the supervision of students / projects
-- Manage multiple projects and functions and prioritize workflow without close supervision

Salary:
Minimum Salary = $32,290
