Dear local historians and OAHSM members:

If your organization is in northern or western Ohio-and in southeast
Ohio, too-you have hit the digitization jackpot! If you want to learn
more about digitizing historic collections or newspapers, there are two
workshops just for you:

1. Additional Newspaper Digitization Workshops The Ohio Historical
Society <http://ohsweb.ohiohistory.org/ondp/index.php?title=Main_Page> ,
in conjunction with the National Digital Newspaper Program
<http://www.neh.gov/projects/ndnp.html> , will be presenting two
additional workshops at the following locations:

* Bowling Green, June 28th (Wood County Public Library
<http://wcdpl.lib.oh.us/> )

* Cincinnati, July 21st (The Public Library of Cincinnati and
Hamilton County, Madeira Branch
<http://www.cincinnatilibrary.org/branches/madeira.html> )

These two-hour presentations will cover the following topics:

10 AM - Noon workshop: Digitizing Your Newspaper Collections (for
organizations interested in digitizing newspapers): Join the staff of
the National Digital Newspaper Program in Ohio for an overview of
digitizing a newspaper collection from start to finish. Topics will
include vendor selection, metadata and image specifications, and other
useful tips and tricks for a project.

3 PM - 5 PM workshop: Using Digitized Newspapers (for librarians, school
media specialists, and educators): Come learn how to incorporate digital
newspapers into your lesson plans and reference tools. We will cover the
use of the Library of Congress' Chronicling America digitized newspaper
database and other digital newspaper repositories.

Two contact hours will be made available to educators and refreshments
will be served for all.

It's also not too late to sign up for the first workshops:

* Athens, June 22nd (Ohio University, Alden Library
<http://www.ohio.edu/athens/bldgs/alden.html> )

* Dayton, June 23rd (Wright State University, Dunbar Library
<http://www.wright.edu/aboutwsu/maps/library.html> )

clear from email addresses). As always, apologies for any cross
