Happy Friday local historians & OAHSM members,

The deadline for nominations for OAHSM's Outstanding Achievement Awards
is August 1! Is there an outstanding local history project that
deserves statewide recognition? Is there an exceptional person whose
long record of "above and beyond" service to your historical society is
an example to us all? Recognize that successful project or honor that
wonderful person by submitting Outstanding Achievement Award nomination.

The awards nomination form was mailed around the time of this spring's
OAHSM regional meetings. If you need another copy, find it attached
here as a PDF or pasted below in the body of this email. (Note on the
PDF: the form is complete, but the second page is inexplicably blank)

Outstanding Achievement Award winners will be announced in September and
awardees will be honored at OAHSM's annual awards luncheon on Saturday,
October 2.

The awards luncheon is the second day of OAHSM's annual meeting and
conference, October 1 - 2 at the Embassy Suites hotel in Dublin,
Ohio-located conveniently off Columbus's I-270 outer belt. Save the
dates and plan to attend both days of OAHSM's annual meeting! Look for
information about the annual meeting in additional emails and in the
annual meeting brochure, arriving in your mailbox in early August.

Any questions? Please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks. -remember, text

OAHSM Outstanding Achievement Awards Categories

Awards are presented in two categories: Individual Achievement and
History Outreach.

Individual Achievement Awards recognize people who have made outstanding
contributions to Ohio's historical societies or history museums or to
the understanding and appreciation of state or local history. Nominees
must meet the following criteria:

*	Be involved in a historical society, museum, or related
organization for at least five years.

*	Demonstrate activity and excellence in more than one area of the
organization's operations.

*	If involved in teaching, demonstrate creativity in teaching
methods and expertise in local and state history.

Support Material

Nominations must be accompanied by letters of recommendation for the
award, and, for publicity purposes, one or more color or black-and-white
photographs. Support material is very important. The review panel needs
news clippings, activity information, lesson plans, publicity, and other
material to help them gain a clear picture of the nominee's
contributions to local history, historical organizations, or teaching.

History Outreach Awards

History Outreach Awards recognize outstanding projects, including public
programs, exhibits, and media and publications, that have educational
content, have contributed to promotion and understanding of local and
state history, and have had an impact on the community. At least one
History Outreach Award will be given to an organization with a budget
above $25,000 and one to an organization with a budget below
$25,000.Nominations will be accepted for projects in the following
categories:

Public Programming

These include school programs, audio-visual programs, workshops, tours,
and lectures. Programs will be judged on the basis of
historical/educational value and on their technical aspects. A
description and visual evidence of the program should be provided.

Media and Publications

This is a broad category that includes local and regional history
publications in the form of books or journals, brochures, websites,
newsletters, fundraising material, calendars, and posters. Nominations
must demonstrate that the publication accomplished its goal, reached its
intended audience, and/or promoted a greater interest in history. Style,
creativity, and content will be considered.

Exhibits/Displays

Exhibits will be judged on the basis of historical significance,
accuracy, aesthetics, organization, and understandable narrative. Please
include a physical description of the exhibit, a brief excerpt from the
exhibit script, and sample labels.

Support Material

For all projects nominated for History Outreach Awards, please include:

*	Detailed budget with itemized expenses. These costs may include,
but are not limited to, salaries, in-kind expenses (outside institution
or individual volunteer costs), postage, supplies, printing,
construction costs, equipment, refreshments, transportation, and
rentals. Nominations will not be considered without a budget.

*	Copies of publicity: press releases, articles, and photographs
of the project and public who participated in the event.

*	Letters of support from people who thought that the project
provided a real service to the community.

*	Brief narrative about the people involved in creating or
implementing the project.
