Position:
Temporary Archivist, 12 month position
Background:
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is proud of its rich history of excellence in pediatric healthcare - a tradition that stretches all the way back to 1883. We're the home of major developments and discoveries, including the science of teratology (the study of birth defects), the oral polio vaccine, artificial blood, the heart-lung machine, human lung surfactant replacement therapy and the rotavirus vaccine. Today, we've grown to become one of the nation's largest pediatric facilities, training programs and research institutions. Cincinnati Children's staff members serve as the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine. Our treatment of rare and complex conditions drew patients from every state and 53 countries in fiscal 2013.
Project:
The inventorying and documenting of unprocessed Cincinnati Children's historical materials in a variety of media, including but not limited to art objects, photographs, letters, videos, monographs, newspaper articles and instruments.  End result of this project will be an inventory and understanding of Cincinnati Children's historical collection and an actionable plan for the continued maintenance of the collection. Project will also include the creation of one or two oral histories.
Skills Required:

*         Demonstrated experience in an archives or Special Collections arranging and describing historical collections

*         Capability to judge materials and do research as necessary to determine value

*         An awareness of budget requirements and equipment and supplies needed for proper processing of archival materials

*         Excellent organization, researching, writing and speaking skills

*         Ability to work with and supervise interns as needed

*         Capacity to perform detailed-oriented tasks with irreplaceable material and data

*         Creation of oral histories
Education Required:
Master of Library Science degree with training in archival management or a Master of Arts degree with coursework in archives and manuscripts
