George Willeman (or Geo. as he normally signs his name) hails from Springfield, Ohio and graduated from Wright State University in 1988 with a B.F.A. in Motion Picture Production. in 1983 Dr. William Lafferty introduced Geo. to a part-time job that would become not only his vocation, but his avocation: working with the nitrate motion picture collection of The Library of Congress which was housed in Bldg 167, Area B, of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In 2007, after many years of development, Geo.,now the Nitrate Film Vault Manager, and the nitrate film collection were shipped off to the new National Audio Visual Conservation Center in Culpeper, VA, where he lives in sartorial splendor with his wife Felicia, his new son James Ian, and three whacky cats.
In 2004, along with fellow WSU graduate J. Todd Anderson, Geo. made the feature-length comedy My Mummy in the Dayton-Springfield area. It is out there on DVD if you want to see it! In 2011, Geo. was featured in the Sundance premiered documentary These Amazing Shadows, which tells the story of the National Film Registry and the work of film preservationists to save our quickly vanished national cinema.
