Subject: Upcoming Aldus Society event on May 12

Richard Ring, head curator and librarian of The Watkinson Library (rare books and special collections), at Trinity College Library (CT) will present "The Alchemy of Special Collections: Undergraduate Fellowships and Courses based on Unique Materials at Trinity College" at the
May 12 Aldus Society meeting at The Thurber Center in Columbus.
Rick will discuss the development of fellowships and courses where self-directed students are encouraged to explore the collections in the Watkinson, encounter an item or a group of items that spark inspiration, and engage with that material to produce something new.
The Aldus Society is an organization for people who appreciate the many facets of text and image through various media, but principally the book, past, present and future. Aldus provides a wide variety of programs and activities on book collecting, the history of printing, publishing, and book selling, book illustration, book design, book bindings, paper making, typography, calligraphy, and libraries.
Pre-program socializing begins at 7:00 p.m. and allows members and guests time to discuss their latest bibliophilic adventures. The evening’s program is free and open to the public. The Thurber Center is located at 91 Jefferson Ave., Columbus.
