Thanks for that thoughtful post.

I admit I was a bit peeved when I first read the news about the list. But I only really dipped in and out, so I think I missed the major controversies. Having gone back and looked through some of the posts that led to the decision to terminate the list, and having read about some people's experiences there, the decision definitely makes more sense. It's just a shame that a professional forum could be so, well, unprofessional at times.

Anyway, Lone Arrangers, here I come.

Here is one Ohio archivists' $0.02:

I left Archives and Archivists several years ago after finding it to be a predictably and repeatedly hostile environment, particularly for young professionals. The reality is that much of the best professional advice I have found I have had to seek out through specialized sources anyway, because so many knowledgeable people have left A&A over the years. I welcome and applaud this change from SAA; it is long overdue in my opinion.

For general outlets for what is going on in the American archives world, I think SAA's "Archival Outlook" and "In the Loop" remain a strong source of information. And while I am not a lone arranger, many colleagues have praised the Lone Arranger listserv as a model for what A&A never managed to live up to - collegial and informative. Lone Arranger's listserv information can be found here: https://www2.archivists.org/groups/lone-arrangers-section/connecting-online

So what do Ohio archivists think about the SAA's decision to decommission the Archives email discussion list?

https://www2.archivists.org/news/2017/archives-and-archivists-list-to-be-decommissioned-as-of-december-31

Who's going to want to subscribe to multiple smaller SAA lists in an attempt to keep up with various aspects of the profession? As a generalist and only part-time archivist, I'm not going to have time to read multiple lists.
