Muskingum University’s Roberta A. Smith University Library has an immediate opening for a Reference and Instruction Librarian, with secondary duties as university archivist.  This is an entry-level, 12-month, non-tenured (continuing appointment) position with the rank of assistant professor.

The candidate must place a strong focus on teaching the information literacy and critical thinking abilities required by the undergraduate curriculum, including teaching the 3-credit hour LIBR220 course, Beyond Google: Research Skills and Resources. In addition to teaching LIBR220, the successful candidate will respond to reference questions, provide individual research consultations, prepare customized online guides as appropriate, and participate in course-integrated library instruction.

The successful candidate will:
•       Provide quality reference services and effective library instruction, including participating in assessment of the program
•       Utilize virtual reference services and other products, including IM, LibGuides, and Blackboard course management system
•       Collaborate with the other reference librarians, and often faculty, in designing programs, expanding outreach, delivering services, and evaluating outcomes
•       Participate in essential library responsibilities of weeding, collection development, circulation, customer service, and assessment of library reference services
•       Organize, coordinate, and utilize finding aids to make the University Archives accessible to the university community, as well as the greater Muskingum community
•       Other duties as required or assigned in support of the University's mission and core values.
The position requires evening and weekend reference desk duty on a rotating basis. The successful candidate can expect training and support as they develop their professional skills.
The Roberta A. Smith University Library is a member of the OhioLINK and OPAL Ohio library consortia.

Qualifications:

Required:
•       ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS by December 2017
•       Relevant experience in providing reference service and/or relevant coursework
•       Relevant teaching experience and/or relevant coursework
•       Relevant archival experience and/or relevant coursework

Preferred:
•       Undergraduate coursework in physical or health sciences
•       Teaching experience, including information literacy instruction
•       Interest in archiving, experience a plus
•       Interest in cataloging, experience a plus

Appointment to this position is conditional upon the successful completion of a background check through the University's background check agency.
