Congress Finally Passes FY 19 Federal Budget

On February 15, President Trump signed into law a $333 million omnibus appropriations bill<https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=40bc6cfe81&e=994dc209a0> that will fund the federal government for the remaining seven and a half months of fiscal year 2019 (FY19). Across the board, history, archival and education programs were either level funded or received small increases. Congress Enacts Civil Rights Cold Case Records Collection Act

In January, President Trump signed into law the “Civil Rights Cold Case Records Collection Act of 2018" (Public Law 115-426<https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=cddce6f19f&e=994dc209a0>). It authorizes the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to create a collection of unsolved civil rights case files. In addition, the law establishes a Civil Rights Cold Case Review Board to determine which records can be released to the public. National Park Service Awards Hurricane Disaster Recovery Grants
The National Park Service recently announced $48.5 million in supplemental assistance grants to help historic resources recover in areas impacted by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria in 2017. Communities in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Texas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands will receive assistance for historic preservation projects related to hurricane recovery efforts.
