font-family:Arial'>Over the past couple months; the listserv has received many
updates from <st1:PersonName w:st="on">Jelain Chubb</st1:PersonName>, State
Archivist at the Ohio Historical Society involving advocacy initiatives to pass
H.R. 6056, The Preserving the Historical Record Act (PAHR). If PAHR is
passed on the federal level, up to $1.7 million dollars from a total of $50
million dollars will be appropriated to <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Ohio</st1:place></st1:State>.
This bill would provide funding through grants to over 5,000 local governments
and 1,000 archival institutions in our state for projects and initiatives to
strengthen archival storage and accessibility, policy development, preservation
measures and so forth.</span></font><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'> <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>At this point, two <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Ohio</st1:place></st1:State>
legislators, Charlie Wilson (6<sup>th</sup> District) and Tim Ryan (17<sup>th</sup>
District), have agreed to support this bill, but more sponsorship is needed to
get this bill passed. <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>On August 12,
2008,</span></b> <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>SOA Council unanimously
agreed to support this bill</span></b> and will be contacting legislators in <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Ohio</st1:State></st1:place> to gain their
support. Now, we need your help. More support from archival institutions
and archivists is needed to get the attention of legislators. </span></font><o:p></o:p></p>
