Within OCLC Research, she leads projects to inform and improve professional archival practice. Activities include analysis of archival descriptive practices through data mining of WorldCat; design and implementation of a detailed survey of special collections libraries in the OCLC Research Library Partnership, the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and other consortia; participation in redesign and expansion of ArchiveGrid; and studying the needs of archival repositories for specialized tools and services.<br><br>Her professional activities have centered on the development of standards for cataloging and description. She was a member of the research team that designed Encoded Archival Description, editor of the EAD Application Guidelines, co-editor of Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Books, and a member of the editorial team for the first edition of the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials. She has published and spoken extensively in areas such as authority work for archives, subject and form/genre access, rare book and visual materials cataloging, and technology for special collections.<o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><br>Prior to joining OCLC Research in September 2008, Jackie was Head of Special Collections and Archives at the University of California, Irvine, where she led the library's programs in rare books, manuscripts, university archives and exhibits. Her previous positions were at the Getty Research Institute, the University of California, San Diego and the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division. She was one of five library school graduates selected in 1982 as an Library of Congress Intern. She is an elected Fellow of the Society of American Archivists and member of the Grolier Club of New York. Jackie teaches "An Introduction to Archives for Special Collections Librarians" at the University of Virginia's Rare Book School. She has consulted for a variety of distinguished libraries in her areas of expertise.<o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><br>Jackie is an active member of the Society of American Archivists and Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries, having served in various elected and appointed positions in each society. In August 2011 she will take office as Vice-President/President-Elect of SAA. She is currently a member of ARL's Working Group on Special Collections.
