Cataloger / Digitization Specialist Responsibility: Responsible to the Library Director Classification: This position is classified as full-time professional and is non-exempt from overtime compensation. Supervision: Supervises interns, volunteers, and contractual staff. Coordination: 1. Works closely with curatorial, reference, and IT staff at the WRHS. 2. Maintains liaison with area libraries and regional schools of library science and information science to enhance internship opportunities and recruit volunteers. Duties: 1. Oversees all on-line cataloging (original and copy) activities of print materials for the WRHS Library, including retrospective cataloging of existing collections, and the cataloging of new acquisitions. 2. Administers Cuadra STAR collection management system. 3. Engages in and coordinates with curatorial and special projects staff the digitization of Library collections materials. 4. Participates in development and maintenance of discovery tools and the Library’s digital repository. 5. Works with curatorial staff to ensure proper application of descriptive metadata standards. 6. Works, in cooperation with curatorial staff, in effectively managing collection storage spaces. 7. Assists in the deaccessioning of duplicate and non-mission related materials from the collection. 8. Works with the Library Director, reference staff, and Genealogical Advisory Committee in selecting published materials (books, pamphlets, ephemera, etc.) for permanent addition to the collections of the Library. 9. Works with the Development Coordinator to secure volunteers and interns for work in library-archives activities in areas relating to the duties enumerated above. 10. Contributes informative and timely data to the WRHS website. Qualifications: 1. Masters in Library Science or Information Science with emphasis on cataloging and on-line access to bibliographic resources. 2. Experience: Two years library experience in technical services or cataloging department preferred, experience cataloging in USMARC format on OCLC desirable. 3. Knowledge of techniques and best practices for scanning and describing multiple formats of materials including bound volumes, flat paper, photographs, and oversize items. 4. Knowledge of current cataloging and metadata standards, including RDA, DACS, EAD, and Dublin Core. 5. Knowledge of pending and proposed new protocols for on-line cataloging systems highly desirable. 6. Personal traits: Trustworthy, motivated, neat, orderly, attentive to detail, and interested in evolving library, archival and information technologies.
