The ODNR, Division of Geological Survey is the state's oldest natural resources agency, established by the state legislature in 1837 as the Geological Survey of Ohio. Commonly referred to as the Ohio Geological Survey, the division has been in continuous operation

<b>RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LIBRARY ASSISTANT 2 POSITION:</b><br>
Performs paraprofessional library tasks for the Ohio Geological Survey library: assists in establishing and operating a functional archives/library; assists in the development of policies, procedures, goals and objectives for the archives/library; creates,
 develops, and maintains electronic/digital archival systems, researches and recommends digital archiving and data retention policy;  reviews all digital data and digital project files and consults with staff to arrange for archiving data; scans historically
 relevant documents and arranges for archival storage; incorporates current advances in electronic information storage technology, writes descriptions and metadata of the preserved records and data, indexes and develops finding aids, and organizes files;  
 performs original and copy cataloging processes; assigns classification numbers as well as Library of Congress Subject Headings; performs cataloging tasks specific to map and drawing collections; builds and maintains accession databases; maintains online digital
 collections using metadata schemas, reviews processes and chooses online public access catalogs; prepares bibliographic information for entry into online search databases; analyzes and makes recommendations to improve cataloging services for customers; performs
 complex bibliographic searches through various sources; performs acquisition and distribution activities for publications (e.g. handles exchange, purchase, or donation services with other geological surveys and the State Library of Ohio); conducts periodic
 inventory of Division assets and maintains inventory using the Ohio Administrative Knowledge System.  <br>

Assists staff with library services:  assists with collection development including offers of donations to the collection; participates in collections-wide facilities planning; collaborates on collection management decisions affecting physical and electronic
 material; keeps the Division current on trends and policies regarding collection building and archival management in special libraries; communicates professionally with customers and handles standard collection related requests using available resources.<br>

Performs clerical duties related to collection services (e.g., maintaining records and statistics, preparing reports, shelving, filing, and shifting collections); coordinates with State Library of Ohio, the Ohio History Connection, other geological survey and
 academic institutions to update and inventory collections (e.g., contacts libraries, picks up & returns publications); receives & catalogs donations (e.g., books, photos, maps, publications, samples) & properly archives or distributes to other libraries as
