<br><br></div><div>---<br><br><b>Call for Papers: The Power of New Voices (Lightning Round Talks)</b><br><br>2020 RBMS Conference: Power, Resistance, and Leadership<br><br>Bloomington, Indiana, June 23-26, 2020<br><br>The RBMS Membership & Professional Development (M&PD) and Scholarships Committees invite new and emerging special collections professionals to submit proposals for “The Power of New Voices,” a panel session to be held at the upcoming RBMS 2020 Conference. <br><br>“The Power of New Voices” will consist of approximately 8 lightning round talks (7 minutes each) by students, recent graduates, new professionals, and/or past RBMS scholarship recipients. Talks must address the 2020 RBMS conference theme “Power, Resistance, and Leadership” and should relate to special collections and/or archives practice and related research. <br><br>Possible topics include:<br><ul><li>critical engagement with the profession</li><li>equity, inclusion, and diversity</li><li>cultural competencies</li><li>community partnerships</li><li>professional and paraprofessional relations</li><li>power dynamics within the profession and our organizations</li><li>making invisible labor visible</li><li>political organizing and advocacy work</li><li>subversiveness</li><li>empowerment</li><li>management and leadership (early career perspectives)</li></ul><div><br></div>Open to students in MLIS or Master’s programs leading to a career in special collections librarianship; new and emerging professionals (5 years’ post Master’s degree); and past RBMS scholarship recipients from 2016-2019. Priority will be given to individuals presenting at RBMS for the first time. This is an excellent opportunity for those new to the profession to gain experience presenting a conference paper in a casual and supportive environment. <br><br>Please submit an abstract of 250 words by <b>January 3, 2020</b> to session co-organizers, Meghan Constantinou (Scholarships Committee) and Gina Nortonsmith (M&PD Committee) at <a href="mailto:NewVoicesRBMS@gmail.com" target="_blank">NewVoicesRBMS@gmail.com</a>. Abstracts should include name, email address, and institutional or professional affiliation (if applicable).
