<div dir="ltr"><div dir="auto"><div>Good Morning SOA Members,</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">The Ohio Statehouse is on break until May 9th, so now is the time to prepare testimony and catch up on what's been happening with HB 327, and the new HB 616, the so called "Ohio Don't Say Gay" bill. Members have been reaching out to me about how they can be more involved in fighting against these harmful bills that threaten our work as archivists and memory workers, and that threatens the people and children in our communities. HB 616 is Ohio's third educational gag order that censors honest education and discussion about race, racism, sexual orientation, and gender identity.<br>

Taking its cues from HB 322, HB 327, Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill, and other copycat bills across the country, HB 616 prohibits the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity, Critical Race Theory, and the 1619 Project, among other "divisive and inherently racist concepts". </span><br>
