<b>OPLIN 4cast Podcast #18: Open Source Software</b><br>
<small><!-- by OPLIN Managing Editor --></small>
<p>Yesterday, the <a href="http://winslo.state.oh.us/"
title="State Library of Ohio" target="_blank">State Library of Ohio</a>
hosted a meeting for anyone interested in the future of <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_library_system"
title="Integrated library system (Wikipedia)" target="_blank">Integrated
Library Systems</a>
in Ohio libraries. Originally the meeting was to be a simple discussion
among libraries affected by the recent announcement of the coming end
of the Horizon library system from Sirsi/Dynix; however, many
librarians also wanted to have a discussion about statewide options,
including the possibility of moving to open source library systems. By
the time the meeting started, there were about 70 people in attendance
(with another half dozen participating via video from Kent State
University).</p>
<p>Stephen Hedges (OPLIN Director) was asked to provide some background
information on open source library systems, which is a topic of
interest to librarians, but still not very well-understood. Today’s
podcast includes a little of that background.<br>
