OPLIN 4cast Podcast #20: What Makes Google Work?

Mention
Google to a librarian and you’re likely to get a strong reaction,
ranging from worry to grudging respect. Surveys tell us that the
overwhelming majority of people turn to Google when searching for
information on the web, and generally ignore library websites. That’s
worrisome for libraries. But Google is undeniably good at finding
information on the web, and that’s why people keep returning to it.

So what makes Google so good? The complete answer to that is a trade
secret of course, but there’s still a lot of things we do know about
Google. In today’s OPLIN 4cast Podcast, we’ll take a closer
look at the inner workings of Google.
