As I said in the invitation to test, I do not yet have a way to delete individual posts from the archives. What we say during testing may be available for posterity. There is apparently a way to edit the archive file directly on the server, a dangerous thing to do, in my opinion, but it might be an experiment worth attempting. Elsewhere, Jeff said: > Well, let's see if this message conceals the sender. > > If my email address shows up then we'll know there's something not quite so > intuitive about the customization interface. The option "Conceal yourself from the subscriber list" does not allow someone to post anonymously. It hides an e-mail address from the roster of list subscribers. List members can access that roster from the OPLINLIST info page. Based on Jeff's experiment, I altered the wording of the option, so that instead of "Conceal yourself from the subscriber list" it now reads "Conceal yourself from the roster of subscribers." Such subscriber rosters are a handy resource for spammers. I had originally thought to forbid access to the roster, but since individuals have the option for individuals to conceal themselves, and since the roster does not display machine-readable e-mail addresses, I thought I'd make the roster available to subscribers. I was considering the possibility = that some folks might fret over what to say in their reply or if they = should delete signatures, etc.  - not realizing that no further = information would be needed so long as the subject line stays = intact.

Is there a list of individual library emails, some of this stuff is of very regional interest... Its very nice to have oplinlist back... -----Original Message----- From: occ_moderator [mailto:piercy@occ.state.oh.us] Sent: Wednesday, August 27, 2003 9:29 AM To: occ-alert@yahoogroups.com Subject: [occ-alert] Residents of Mogadore must make electric decision by September 16 Residents of Mogadore must make electric decision by September 16 FirstEnergy Solutions agreement up for renewal COLUMBUS, Ohio, August 27 - The Ohio Consumers' Counsel (OCC), the residential utility advocate, alerts the residents of the Village of Mogadore of an important electric aggregation decision that must be made by September 16. Residents will be receiving information from their local government about how to join, remain in or withdraw from the community buying group. The mailing also provides details about the new rate being offered by FirstEnergy Solutions, the company chosen by village officials to supply electricity to its residents as part of its aggregation program. What is aggregation? Electric aggregation is the process of joining consumers together as a group to buy electricity. Mogadore residents passed a ballot issue in November 2000 giving their local government the ability to choose a new electric supplier on their behalf. How will it affect residents in Mogadore? Residents will be included automatically in the community buying pool and will be switched to FirstEnergy Solutions unless they "opt out," or remove themselves from the group. After the initial opt-out period, consumers who join in the program for the first time will receive a letter from Ohio Edison notifying them that FirstEnergy Solutions will supply their electricity. Those consumers will have seven days from the postmark date on this letter to withdraw from the aggregation program at no cost, after which time a $25 fee will be charged. Residents who choose to opt out of the aggregated group will continue to purchase their electricity from Ohio Edison. Whether residents participate in the buying pool or not, Ohio Edison will continue to deliver electricity to their homes, repair poles and wires and send customers their monthly bill. What should consumers do now? The OCC is offering the following tips for residents of the Village of Mogadore: - Carefully read the information that was mailed to you from the village's office, including the rate and terms and conditions of the agreement with FirstEnergy Solutions. Residents can contact FirstEnergy Solutions at 1-866-636-3749 for more information. - If you do not wish to be included in the buying pool, you must mail back the opt-out card, postmarked by September 16. - To participate in the buying pool, you do not need to do anything. You will be switched automatically to FirstEnergy Solutions. - If you currently have an agreement with an electric supplier and you do not want to be part of the aggregated group, you must mail back the opt-out card postmarked by September 16. If you are considering joining the aggregated group, you should review the length of the agreement you have with your supplier and be sure to consider any cancellation fees or penalties that may apply if you do not opt out of the program. - Keep all information sent by the village's office and FirstEnergy Solutions for future reference. - If you have misplaced or have not received the opt-out notice and do not wish to participate in the buying pool, call FirstEnergy Solutions to ask how to remove yourself from the group. Residential consumers can contact the OCC toll free at 1-877-PICKOCC (1-877-742-5622) or at www.pickocc.org to request more information about the aggregation process or energy choice programs. About the Ohio Consumers' Counsel The Ohio Consumers' Counsel (OCC) is the residential utility advocate serving as a resource for individuals who have questions and concerns or would like more information about the services provided by their publicly owned electric, natural gas, telephone and water companies. The state agency also educates consumers about utility issues and resolves complaints from individuals. To receive utility information brochures, schedule a presentation or file a utility complaint, residential consumers may call 1-877-PICKOCC (1-877-742-5622) or visit the OCC website at www.pickocc.org. Howdy! I have a patron who is trying to recall the title and author of a book she has read in the time frame from 1963-1969.  This book is a book that could be classified as children's or young adult.  She also thought that this was either a Newberry honor or Caldecott honor.  We have searched NoveList, but have found a book that matches. The plot:  an old man offers to his heirs a chance to win the exclusive inheritance of his huge estate.  To be the winner, the heirs  had to solve a riddle.  The solution includes facts from the stock market and the Wall Street Journal.  A young girl solves the mystery and becomes the heir, and develops a close friendship with the old man. The patron describes this as a very wholesome, educational, and gripping book. I leave this "mystery" in your expert hands.  Please post to the list, and thank you in advance! Mary Leffler
