Description: The speaker will explain how the Americans With Disabilities
Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and Workers
Compensation Act impact personnel management (brief descriptions below). A
brief Human Resources Committee Meeting will follow lunch (appx. 2:00).

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination on the
basis of disability in employment, state and local government, public
accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation, and
telecommunications.

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles eligible employees to take
up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave each year for specified family
and medical reasons.

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) is an amendment to Title VII of the
Civil Rights Act of 1964. Discrimination on the basis of pregnancy,
childbirth or related medical conditions constitutes unlawful sex
discrimination under Title VII.

In 1912, the Ohio Constitution was amended to provide a method by which
injured workers could be compensated for their work-related injuries in a
quick, efficient and adequate manner. The Workers Compensation Act (WPA)is a
mandatory act that requires all injured workers to proceed through the
system to receive compensation and medical payments for their work-related
injuries.

This workshop is funded, in part, through an Institute of Museum and Library
Services LSTA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.
