MANAGING HUMAN RESOURCES

Presented by: Jim Hudson

Date & Time: Tue & Wed, October 14 & 15, 2003

Fees: $135 for both days - Successful completion earns 1.2 CEUs for this
class.

Location: Ohio Valley Area Libraries (OVAL), 252 West Thirteenth Street,
Wellston, Ohio
{ MAP: www.oval.lib.oh.us/find/ }.

People are the most valuable of your enterprise's resources and are also the
most expensive and difficult to manage. Unlike machines, paperwork and other
tools needed to get the job done, they are people. They have feelings and
lives outside of the workplace. In spite of their broad differences and
feelings, they must work together like a well-oiled machine.

As you become a part of management, you will hear the words "do more with
less" quite often. You may have to make decisions that affect the quality of
life of your associates such as changing work start times, days of the week,
reductions and increases in the number of hours required to get the job done
in the most efficient manner. In addition to this, there are many laws that
guide and sometimes restrict the manner in which you manage your Human
Resources. Day one of this class will guide participants through the more
technical issues involving management of their human assets.

Day One Topics Covered:
---Staffing - not enough people vs. too many vs. just right
---Coverage
---Budgeting
---Day two of this class will cover employment laws and the agencies that
enforce them. This section will involve several case studies of potential
violations and require participants to help develop solutions to assure
compliance with Federal and State regulations.

Day Two Topics Covered:
---Non-discrimination in hiring, promotions, termination
---Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986
---ADA - Americans with Disabilities Act
---Wage and hour laws
