[OPLINLIST] SE Ohio Digital Shoebox will take your breath away

The SOLO Regional Library System is privileged to announce the SE Ohio
Digital Shoebox.

Every family, library, archive, museum, genealogical and historical society
has treasures in its collection. Many of these treasures came from senior
citizens in the community who kept their personal treasures—photos, school
mementos, and family obituaries—in a shoebox.

The Digital Shoebox brings these historical treasures together in a
searchable online scrapbook.  It will be a gateway to primary source
materials relating to the rich history and culture of southeastern Ohio—the
“start of it all.”  This is a perfect opportunity for the general public to
participate in an Ohio Bicentennial project.

There are currently 2,971 images available for viewing at
www.digitalshoebox.org.  The images are searchable by library, title,
subject or keyword.  Most images were digitized by JJT, Inc.  Others were
scanned locally using Content DM Digital Collection Management Software.

Images include familyphotos of George Armstrong Custer, Cab Calloway, civil
war artifacts and reinactments, industries, baseball teams, church
gatherings, meat wagons, trains, covered bridges and floods.

This project has been made possible through a grant, with ten libraries
providing additional local funding.  Participating libraries are:  Newark
Public Library, Kate Love Simpson-Morgan County Library, Martins Ferry
Public Library, Perry County District Library, Public Library of
Steubenville and Jefferson County, Monroe County District Library, Puskarich
Public Library, Muskingum County Library System, St.Clairsville Public
Library, and Washington County Public Library.
