Buckeye Book Fair Announces 2004 Grant Applications
Wooster, Ohio - The Buckeye Book Fair announced that applications are now
available for literacy grants of up to $1,000 to support literacy programs
in Ohio. Eligible organizations include Ohio public school districts, Ohio
parochial schools, Ohio public libraries, and Ohio literacy programs. Grant
money must be used to purchase printed materials, which will address a need
not currently being met in the applicant's program. The application deadline
is June 30, 2004, and grant recipients will be notified in October. The
grants are made possible through proceeds from the November 2003 Buckeye
Book Fair.
Since its inception in 1987, the Buckeye Book Fair has provided over 200
grants totaling more than $180,000 to nearly 200 different schools,
libraries, and literacy programs. Grant applications and further information
about the Buckeye Book Fair are available on-line at
www.BuckeyeBookFair.com, by writing to the Manager at Buckeye Book Fair, 205
West Liberty St., Wooster, OH 44691, by e-mail to bbfmgr@woosterbook.com, or
by calling 330-262-3244.
The 18th annual Buckeye Book Fair will be held November 6, 2004, from 9:30
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Fisher Auditorium on the campus of the Ohio
Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster. Newly released
books by guest writers and illustrators will be featured, with most to be
sold at a discount off the cover price. Authorized library purchases will
receive an additional discount.
Last year, the Buckeye Book Fair featured 100 authors who autographed 291
titles and met the reading public. Over 7,900 books were sold during the 6
1/2-hour event, which focused on Ohio authors and books about Ohio. The
Buckeye Book Fair is a project of The Daily Record in Wooster, and is
incorporated as a non-profit organization.
Biographies of the participating authors, along with descriptions of
featured 2004 books, will be included in a special booklet to be released in
the fall. Anyone who would like to receive a copy of the free booklet may
contact the manager at the above address.
