Applications are currently available for Let's Talk About It: Jewish
Literature - Identity and Imagination, a new initiative that will award
grants to public and academic libraries across the country to host
scholar-led book discussion programs on four new themes exploring Jewish
literature and culture. This month, the American Library Association
(ALA) Public Programs Office and Nextbook, a gateway to Jewish
literature, culture and ideas, awarded 34 grants to public and academic
libraries to host Let's Talk About It: Jewish Literature programs in the
spring. ALA and Nextbook plan to award additional grants, totaling 200,
via three rounds in the next two years.

The next application deadline is October 1, 2004. ALA and Nextbook
encourage you to apply for this grant and to pass this information on to
libraries you work with that may be interested in applying. To obtain a
grant application and guidelines, please visit

Let's Talk About It: Jewish Literature - Identity and Imagination aims
to expand audiences for Jewish literature nationwide and recruit new
libraries to present Let's Talk About It programming. Each
participating library will receive a $1,500 grant, training, and program
and promotional materials to present a five-part series based on one of
the four new themes. The series will be open to public audiences and
feature discussion programs led by local scholars and supporting
materials developed by ALA and Nextbook.
