Sponsored by the Ohio Community Computing Network

The Ohio Community Computing Network (OCCN) is proud to present the Kent
State University - Tuscarawas Leadership Development Institute taking place
February 20th and 21st.

This training will be tailored to the needs of the directors/leaders of
individual Community Technology Centers (CTCs) and will be packed with
useful information on all facets of CTC existence, such as strategic
planning, fundraising, technology planning, volunteer organizing and
collaboration. The KSU Tuscarawas LDI will attract CTC leaders from
surrounding local areas such as Coshocton, Steubenville, East Liverpool,
Canton and Wooster. Unlike other leadership training, this one will address
issues specific to the community technology movement. OCCN has lined up a
wide variety of presenters and workshop facilitators with years of CTC
experience.

Since its inception in 1995 after it was charged with the distribution of
telecommunications settlement funds through the Public Utilities Commission
of Ohio (PUCO), the Ohio Community Computing Network has overseen the
dispersal of more than $9 million to Community Technology Centers (CTCs)
around Ohio. These centers have provided free access to computers and other
technology for a steadily growing underserved population for almost a
decade. OCCN has provided these centers with funds and essential volunteers
through the OCCN AmeriCorps*VISTA program.

The bulk of the training will include presentations from several key
players. Rochelle Fisher of the Akron Urban League will be facilitating a
session on fundraising that goes beyond grantwriting, teaching participants
how to diversify their income. Jacquie Skrzypiec of Project Connect, A
Program of Info Line Inc., is going to show everyone how to use TechAtlas, a
very useful (and free!) online tool to develop a technology plan for your
organization. In addition, Bill Callahan of Cleveland Digital Vision and
Anne Robinson of CATNeT (Coalition to Access Technology and Networking in
Toledo) will be sharing their successful experiences regarding regional CTC
Networking, and Gary Lambert of the Area Labor Management Cooperative
Council will speak about collaboration. Also, OCCN's own Angela Stuber will
be showcasing a very useful (and very interactive) visioning exercise.

With a targeted grant from Verizon, OCCN will be planning to host numerous
LDIs throughout the year, aiming to educate those CTCs located within the
Verizon's service areas. The Kent State University LDI is first of the 2004
series. The LDIs will last two full days. Here's a look at the LDI
