  ---Today's workplaces are comprised of employees from three, and sometimes
even four, distinct generations: Veterans, Boomers, Xers, and Nexters. The
times in which we were raised shaped our view of roles, relationships,
learning, and success. These different generational views are being played
out in the workplace - often leading to increased tension. This interactive
session will incorporate participant experiences with the latest research on
this emerging issue, leading to new perspectives and ideas for working more
cooperatively.

  AGE Matters is an interactive training that encourages and facilitates
intergenerational discussions regarding workplace values/practices and the
tension that often arises between generations. The acronym AGE stands for:
acknowledge differences, generate options (for improved relations), and
establish models (for working productively).

  In their work with a wide range of organizations Mary Merrill and Jane
Federer, independent consultants and trainers, witnessed a growing level of
generational tension in the workplace. Comments such as "young people today
have no work ethic" or "everyone seems okay with our new direction except
the old folks" were becoming commonplace.

  During this positive and interactive training, participants will represent
their generation and gain an increased understanding of other generations.
This training will incorporate participant experiences with the latest
research on this emerging issue. Participants will walk away with new
perspectives on their co-workers and ideas on how to work more
cooperatively.

  By the end of this session participants will:
  --Identify distinct generational differences
  --Explore workplace implications of generational differences
  --Explore four workplace flashpoints: feedback, training, supervision and
reward
  --Develop strategies for working productively across generations

  ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS:
  Mary Merrill is an internationally respected consultant and trainer in
non-profit management. A licensed social worker, Mary works to strengthen
leaders, organizations and communities.

  Mary is Adjunct Faculty at The Ohio State University and editor of the
Journal of Volunteer Administration for the International Association for
Volunteer Administration. She is recognized as a skilled trainer in
volunteer management, board development, strategic planning, ethics,
generational differences, association management, strategic communication,
risk management, leadership, and impact evaluation. She facilitates planning
retreats and staff development seminars, and serves as a consultant to a
wide range of nonprofit organizations and professional association. She is
well known in Ohio’s library community for her board development seminars
through the Ohio Library Council and her skills as a strategic planning
facilitator.

  Mary helped develop the first volunteer center in Moscow and served as a
management consultant for developing non-profits (NGO’s) in Armenia. She has
worked with organizations in the United States, Canada, Russia, Armenia,
Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil and the United Kingdom. She has presented at three
World Volunteer Conferences and the Asia Pacific Region Conference on
Volunteer Administration in Korea. She presents annually at the
International Conference on Volunteer Administration (ICVA), and the
National Volunteering and Community Service Conference (POL).

  Jane Federer is an independent trainer and consultant. Working in
corporate and community settings, Jane helps people develop the skills
necessary to work with and lead others. Achieve Global, an international
training company, certifies Jane as a Master Trainer. She regularly
facilitates leadership, communication, intergenerational, train-the-trainer,
and custom programs for clients.

  During her twelve years with the American Red Cross, Jane served in
Director level positions in volunteer administration, disaster response, and
fund raising and became highly skilled in supervision, program development,
volunteer administration, and community relations.

  Excellent at leading groups to consensus, Jane has successfully
facilitated problem-solving meetings for statewide organizations. She has
also consulted with several non-profit and governmental organizations on
improving their volunteer and community relations programs.

  Jane has a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology with an emphasis on
organizational development. She volunteers her skills with the Center for
New Directions helping women in transition achieve their personal and
professional goals. She is a member of the American Society for Training and
Development. Jane is the recipient of the Tiffany Award for employee
excellence in management (American Red Cross) and the Award of Excellence
for outstanding contributions to the profession of volunteer administration
(Volunteer Administrators’ Network of Central Ohio).
