*Executive Director*
*Greater Cincinnati Library Consortium*

*Introductory Information*
GCLC is a member-driven multi-type library cooperative with members in 
the states of Ohio and Kentucky. The GCLC Executive Director reports to 
the Executive Board and, under its direction, develops, plans and 
supervises cooperative ventures among multi-type and inter-state member 
libraries. The Executive Director exercises considerable initiative and 
discretion, but works within the guidelines established by the Executive 
Board and the GCLC by-laws. Organized as a 501(c)3, GCLC is partially 
funded by the State of Ohio.

*Responsibilities*
/(to include but not limited to the following)/

    * Oversees and evaluates all consortium programs, services and
      activities.

    * Establishes and implements efficient Executive Office procedures
      and sets priorities.

    * Makes recommendations to the Executive Board and Directors'
      Council about policies, planning and development of services to
      the members.

    * Provides leadership to meet goals determined by the Executive Board.

    * Coordinates consortium services, promotes communication and serves
      as a liaison between groups within GCLC.

    * Supervises and evaluates GCLC staff and recommends to the
      Executive Board such personnel actions as hiring, disciplinary
      action and firing.

    * Plans and monitors expenditures for the total GCLC operating
      budget according to generally accepted accounting practices.

    * Responsible for all non-technical staff development workshops and
      programs.

    * Creates and oversees the posting and mailing of all workshop and
      interest group promotional materials.

    * Secures sources of funding outside the traditional state funding
      to support GCLC activities.

    * Stimulates collaborative partnerships with other organizations,
      including but not limited to the State Libraries of Ohio, Kentucky
      and Indiana, the Ohio Regional Library Systems and other library
      organizations within the three states.

    * Recruits new members from within the states of Ohio, Kentucky and
      Indiana.

    * Encourages participation of member libraries in planning and
      activities.

    * Represents GCLC at appropriate organization meetings.

*Qualifications*

    * Graduate degree in library science from an ALA accredited school
      of library science highly desirable or combination of relevant
      experience and education.

    * Three to five years of increasingly responsible experience in
      professional management.

    * Experience in different types of libraries or networks highly
      desirable or experience with managing a variety of different
      groups, partners or cooperatives.

*Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*

    * Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of
      organizational service and administration.

    * Broad knowledge of the structure of all types of libraries.

    * Entrepreneurial skills such as: financial management, leadership,
      communications, legislative processes and consensus building.

    * Experience in providing successful innovative solutions in a
      consortium environment, as well as the ability to respond to
      fast-paced change in the library environment.

    * Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective
      relationships with member staff at all levels: institutional,
      administrative, community, regional, state and professional.

    * Experience in developing and managing budgets.

    * Demonstrated planning skills and ability to meet deadlines.

    * Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    * Familiarity with using computers, e-mail, the World Wide Web
      (WWW), and standard office equipment.

    * Abilities required include light to moderate physical effort
      demanded when performing functions under typical office and
      computer use conditions. Light to moderate physical effort and
      stamina required for travel and transportation of work related
      materials and equipment to meeting sites.

    * Must possess a Motor Vehicle Operator's License valid for use in
      Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and provide the means of transportation
      to fulfill job duties and attend relevant meetings throughout
      these states. Must be legally eligible for permanent employment in
      the U.S.

*Environment*
Small office environment consisting of the Executive Director, 
Technology Coordinator, and support staff. Must use good judgment in 
prioritizing necessary involvement with the work in the Executive Office 
and the necessary time spent in contact with people both within and 
outside GCLC. The usual work week is 40 hours although the workload will 
vary significantly from time to time so that occasional overtime will be 
expected. The position requires considerable local travel, travel within 
the state of Ohio and some out-of-state travel.

*Benefits*
Total compensation package for first year: $60,000 (includes salary and 
relocation expenses). Competitive insurance benefits (health & dental) 
and an annuity available. Vacation and sick leave also provided.
