North Canton Public Library is looking for a part-time (20 hours) 
reference/teen librarian.  A MLIS/MLS is required or a December graduates 
would be considered.  The posting is below: 

POSITION OPENING 

TITLE: Librarian, Reference and Young Adult

STARTING DATE: May 2, 2004 

SALARY: $13.49 Librarian Classification (MLS/MLIS)
$12.12 Library Associate (Non-MLS within 6 months of graduating with 
MLS/MLIS) 

HOURS:	20 hours per week, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays.
                       An occasional Sunday afternoon may be required. 

QUALIFICATION: MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution, or within 6 
months of receiving MLS/MLIS degree 

REQUIREMENTS:
Ø	Ability to meet and serve the public effectively
Ø	Aptitude for library work.
Ø	An understanding of the aims and goals of the libraries.
Ø	Ability to work under pressure, analyze questions and keep your cool.
Ø	Must be able to lift and carry (up to 40lbs.) library materials, push 
and/or pull book trucks, bend and reach, utilize a standard mouse and/or 
keyboard, and be able to spend a reasonable amount of time seated in front 
on a computer. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø	Assist library users by providing reference and information services in 
person, via telephone or email in a courteous business-like manner.
Ø	Assist library users by providing reader advisory services.
Ø	Assist patrons in the effective use of electronic resources, such as the 
online catalog, online reference materials, OPLIN, Internet and library web 
site.
Ø	Develop services and programs for young adults designed to promote and 
encourage reading and library usage.
Ø	Assist in selecting graphic novels, comic books, and fiction materials for 
young adults, following the guidelines from Collection Management 
Department.
Ø	Serve as teen advocate in the library setting.
Ø	Additional duties may be assigned.
