CUSTOMER INTERFACE, IN YOUR PLACE

All staff of academic, public, school and special libraries are invited to
come to OVAL and participate in this workshop!

When/Where: Tuesday June 01, 2004; 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. @ OVAL

Presented by: Michael Crumpton, Director of Library Services, Wake Technical
Community College, Raleigh, NC

Costs: Free to OVAL/MOLO/SOLO members; $15.00 per person for non-OVAL
members

--How does your library communicate with patrons? What does your library and
staff say consciously (or possibly unconsciously) about your library? Join
this former store manager for Barnes & Noble in Atlanta, Director of
Training for Wallace's College Bookstores and Manager of Circulation
Services for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County as we take
a closer "look" at what your library really says - including a look at what
is being said, use of terminology, training programs, behavioral
expectations, telephone standards and other interactions that circulation
staff have with patrons. Part of the twist is expanding into the retail
world, bookstores in particular, and discussing some of the tools that have
been successful there. Michael also will touch on some of the visual
elements that affect patron interaction and respond to the competition
element that some libraries feel with bookstores. Also included will be a
"best practices" type of discussion with group contributions of ideas or
suggestions. Michael brings a retail and library point of view to the table
for the benefit of libraries as an organization. Michael is currently the
Director of Library Services at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh,
North Carolina.
