Internship and Volunteer Opportunities with Ohio Memory

The Ohio Memory Project is seeking interns and volunteers for Summer =
2004. Interns/volunteers can perform a variety of tasks essential to a =
digital project, including: quality control, research, transcriptions, =
digitization and creation of archival CDs. Interns/volunteers will =
create transcripts and/or digital images for inclusion in the Ohio =
Memory Online Scrapbook (http://www.ohiomemory.org), an award-winning =
online database of over 26,000 images contributed by 330 historical =
societies, libraries, museums and archives in Ohio. Ohio Memory is a =
project of the Ohio Historical Society, one of Ohio's leading cultural =
institutions.=20
Interns/volunteers will learn procedures for creating transcripts and =
digital images following Ohio Memory Project specifications and will be =
introduced to working with primary source materials. Transcripts can be =
assigned based on a student's research interests, encouraging further =
study of the documents in the future. High school, undergraduate or =
graduate students interested in public history, library and/or museum =
fields will gain experience working on a digital project and working =
with a project team. Retirees, homemakers and other interested persons =
are also encouraged to volunteer.
Internships can be done off-site or at the Ohio Historical Center in =
Columbus. The minimum length of internship period is two weeks. Projects =
can be arranged to fit school or work schedules.=20

Internships are unpaid, but college credit may be available through your =
institution. For more information, contact Angela O'Neal, Ohio Memory =
Project Manager at aoneal@ohiohistory.org or (614) 297-2576.
