Program Description:
There's something for everyone in this session! In the morning, revisit
a classic cataloging topic, subject headings, and in the afternoon, get
a glimpse of future trends with FRBR and the Bath profile of Z39.50.=20

Morning session (9-12): Basic subject cataloging This session focuses on
the Library of Congress subject headings and provides an overview of the
principles for assigning subject headings and the mechanics of reading a
subject authority record.=20

Afternoon session (1-4): Technical Services update. This session will
provide an overview of two topics:

*  FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) The Next Big
Thing in the cataloging world, FRBR offers a new view of the
bibliographic universe and focuses on relationships in the library
catalog.=20

*  Z39.50 and the Bath profile Learn how Z39.50 works and why the Bath
profile is necessary to make it work well for libraries.
