Dear All:

I presented testimony to the Senate yesterday regarding the State Library
budget. You can find my testimony on the State Library's web page at:
http://winslo.state.oh.us/senatetestimony.html
<http://winslo.state.oh.us/senatetestimony.html> so you may read it.

The Senators had a great many questions, many specifically dealing with
public libraries but one also on the Ohioana Library and one specifically on
Regional Library Systems, several on collaboration and resource sharing. I
responded to these questions and asked to have Linda Hengst respond also to
the Ohioana question and asked to have Renee Croft (MOLO Regional Library
System Director) respond to the question on Regionals (which was permitted).

There were many questions that will require follow up and I actually think
that this is good - it allows us to go into more detail and opens up the
possibility for dialogue with the Senators.

I think that the Senators clearly are interested and supportive of
libraries. They were glad to hear from a relative newcomer that our library
support is the envy of other states and I emphasized that in the other
states in which I lived we were struck with the wisdom that Ohio had in
setting up this funding/support for public libraries. We are able to
provide excellent library service to the residents of Ohio because of this
funding and support... unspoken but clearly understood is that without this
support, we could not do so.

Jo Budler
