"Come Hear What I See" - Service to the Deaf Community
on Thursday, May 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the CCPL Administration
Building

Libraries continually strive to offer services for the underserved members
of their communities yet they often are unaware of one particular audience -
the Deaf Community. Since deaf persons can move about library buildings with
ease and perhaps satisfy many of their library needs, they may not ever
approach staff with questions even if they do need help. Truth be told, it
is difficult to identify who these customers might be. But does your library
provide an environment that would make them feel welcome and comfortable
enough to ask for assistance and use library services?

Course Content: Cleveland SoundStage Theatre performance --- Communicate in
basic sign --- Deaf materials/Resources --- ADA and library accessibility
--- Deaf Outreach and Advocacy --- Program Ideas and Contacts.

Come Hear What I See Presenters:
Abigail Noland, Facilitator
Alice Hagemeyer, founder and President of the Friends of the Libraries for
Deaf Action
Chuck Williams, a board member from Gallaudet University
Laura Gold, Services for Independent Living and
Cleveland SignStage Theatre</>
