HOME BUYER'S GUIDE AND HOME SELLER'S GUIDE
ARE GREAT RESOURCES WHEN LOOKING TO BUY OR SELL A HOME
As part of the observance of Ohio Consumer Protection Month in February, the
Ohio Department of Commerce is urging Ohioans thinking about purchasing a
home to get the facts before they buy.
Publications are available through the Department's Division of Real Estate
and Professional Licensing to help Ohioans understand the home-buying and
home-selling processes.
"The real estate transaction process can be complicated. Through our Home
Buyer's Guide and Home Seller's Guide, we want to help Ohioans learn as much
as possible about the process so that they can protect their interests along
the way," said Director of Commerce Doug White.
The Home Buyer's Guide is a 12-page book that highlights the home buying
process. The Guide addresses:
* the selection of a real estate professional
* determining what one can afford
* examining the physical details of the structure
* the offer to purchase
* payment of a deposit, or earnest money
* acceptance of the offer
* title examination and inspections
* arranging financing
* obtaining insurance
* the closing process
* the recording of the deed
The Home Seller's Guide is a 22-page book that highlights the home selling
process. The Guide addresses:
* preparing the home for "the market"
* establishing an asking price
* the "Property Condition Disclosure Form"
* the four steps to consider before selling a home
* the "Agency Disclosure Form"
* the three types of listing agreements
* the offer
* the purchase agreement
The guides are available on the Division's web site at
www.com.state.oh.us/real or consumers can call the Division at (614)
466-4100 to request that a free copy be mailed to them.
