Afternoon session:

Taking the Panic Out of Readers' Advisory for Non-Fiction

Thursday, April 14, 2005

1:00 PM to 3:30 PM
MOLO Regional Library System Training Center, Newcomerstown, OH

Scheduled Speakers: Patricia Dempsey, Melanie Deutsch, Sue Anne Wolf,
Cuyahoga County Public Library

Registration is limited to 36

Librarians may panic when asked to recommend a good non-fiction book,
but the basic skills of readers' advisory service also apply to
non-fiction. Sixty percent of library patrons go to the library for
pleasure reading and 51% of men and 46% of women prefer non-fiction. So
readers' advisory remains a top priority among librarians today.
Presenters Patricia Dempsey, Melanie Deutsch, and Sue Anne Wolf of
Cuyahoga County Public Library will share tips for boosting your
library's circulation by using your entire collection when doing
readers' advisory. They'll also show you why patrons don't worry about
Dewey when looking for a book to read!
