Some good news from Lynne Bradley in DC:

Just moments ago the Sanders' Freedom to Read amendment was passed by
the House of Representatives attached to the SSCJ appropriations bill!
In a stunning 238 yeas to 187 nays (199 Dems, 38 Republicans and Sanders
the Independent voting yea) - the Sanders proposal passed prohibiting
Justice Department expenditures to implement Section 215 regarding
investigations at libraries and bookstores. The provision just passed
apparently does not include Internet records as part of the exemption,
however, this is a tremendous advance in the battle to all of our
efforts to succeed with the full HR 1157 as well as the SAFE Act !

We will be getting the final text of the amendment and put out an ALA
statement very shortly. More to come but wanted you all to know that
our grassroots efforts were critical to getting this far. Thank you!
Lynne
