May's Feature: Older Americans Month

May is Older Americans Month. The number of Americans 65 or older is one of
the fastest growing age segments in the United States. With the aging of the
baby boomer generation (those born between 1946 and 1964) this rapid growth
will only continue. With aging comes different health related needs.
NetWellness continues to add information, experts, and  health topics to
keep you going, many of them focused on the Senior Health!

Department of the Month - Obstetrics and Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Of Cincinnati
College Of Medicine prides itself on excellence in patient care, education,
and research. The department consists of over 20 full time faculty organized
into the divisions of general obstetrics and gynecology, maternal fetal
medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and gynecologic
oncology. 

Faculty play an active role in educating medical students, residents, and
fellows. In addition to a well recognized residency program, post residency
fellowship opportunities are available in maternal fetal medicine and
reproductive endocrinology. The department also supports an active research
program that ranks nationally in funding from the National Institutes of
Health and also serves as one of only 40 sites nationwide of the NIH
sponsored Women's Health Initiative.  The faculty of the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynecology provide care to all patients who seek its
professional expertise in the areas of obstetrics, gynecology, high-risk
obstetrics, adolescent gynecology, gynecologic oncology, reproductive
endocrinology, infertility, and menopause. 

Faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offer their expertise

Menopause, and Osteoporosis. 

New!  Sleep Tips for Shift Workers

Sleep problems are a common complaint among many of us today. This problem
can be even more severe among those who work in the evening or overnight.

Complementary Medicine - New Expert!

NetWellness welcomes Glen F. Aukerman , MD as a new expert in Complementary
Medicine. Dr. Aukerman , a professor in the Family Medicine department of
the College of Medicine and Public Health at The Ohio State University
brings a wealth of knowledge on complementary, alternative, and integrative
medicine.

New!  The Mediterranean Diet 

The Mediterranean diet is mentioned often in the news. Not sure what it is
or how to make it fit your lifestyle?  Bonnie J. Brehm , PhD, RD, Associate
Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Cincinnati,
describes it in detail in "The Mediterranean Diet: A Healthy Choice?"  As
always, if questions arise don't forget that experts in the Diet and
Nutrition area are ready to answer your questions. 

Injury Prevention and Safety - New Experts

Injury Prevention and Safety now has "Ask an Expert"! Kelly J. Kelleher ,
MD, MPH and Gary A. Smith , MD, DrPH are the latest additions to a growing
team of experts. Dr's. Kelleher and Smith both are members of the Center for
Injury Prevention Research and Policy at Children's Hospital of Columbus and
are faculty members of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and
Public Health.

New!  Respect the 'Danger Zone'

You might ask what danger zone? Respect the 'Danger Zone' explains how to
help protect you, your family, and friends from food-borne illnesses caused
by improper food storage. With the coming of the summer picnic season this
article by Jaime Ackerman , MPH, RD, LD and Lydia Medeiros , PhD from the
College of Human Ecology at The Ohio State University is timely reading.

Autism - New Expert

Autism is one of the newest topics on NetWellness. The distinguished group
of experts who provide content and Ask an Expert continues to grow with the
addition of Diane L. Habash , PhD, RD, LD. Dr. Habash is the Bionutrition
Core Manager of the General Clinical Research Center in the College of
Medicine and Public Health at The Ohio State University. Her expertise in
the dietary issues facing those with autism is a welcome addition.
