The State Library of Ohio launched the Ohio eBook Project (OEP) in the
Spring of 2005. The project went live on August 1, 2005 with fourteen
inaugural member libraries with two others joining in September.
This statewide project allows you to provide e-books and digital audio
books, to your library customers, at a considerable savings. The State
Library assumed the project's start-up cost and the cost of an opening
day collection of audio books, and pays the monthly maintenance fee.

In order to be included in this project, your library will be required
to:=20
*	Pay a $1,500.00 one time set-up fee
*	Be SIP/SIP2, Patron API, or RPA complaint. Talk to your ILS
vendor if you are not. Upgrading will involve a cost from your ILS
vendor.
*	Pledge 1% of your print book and monograph and AV collection
budget per year to the OEP collection. If 1% of this portion of your
budget is more than $15,000, your contribution will be capped at $15,000
per year for the first year with subsequent years' contribution based on
your library's usage statistics. =20
*	Agree that all digital books will be added to the shared OEP
collection.=20
*	Pay a $1 fee for the accompanying MARC record of any title your
library purchases that are new titles to the OEP collection.
*	Agree that any books your library purchases for the OEP
collection will remain in the OEP collection in the event that your
library leaves the OEP.=20

The e-books are in Adobe and Mobipocket Reader formats, digital
audio-books are in windows media audio (.wma) files delivered through
the OverDrive Media Console software. Mobipocket Reader and .wma files
are not compatible with Apple computers and CANNOT BE USED WITH IPODS.
Patrons can download e-books and audio books from the computers in their
homes, offices, or at your library if you choose to allow downloading at
your computers.    =20
