SPECIAL UPDATE regarding Ohio Academic Content Standards and the removal =
of
proficiency test materials from library shelves.

Many public and school libraries have provided materials to help prepare
students for state proficiency tests. This support from the library
community has been important in helping our students succeed and the
education community appreciates this support. The proficiency tests =
measured
student learning in grades 4, 6, 9 and 12. The 12th grade proficiency test
was discontinued a few years ago and March 2005 was the last administration=

of the 4th and 6th grade tests. There are still a small number of older
students taking the 9th grade proficiency test, but it will be administered=

for the last time in September of 2008.

Since the proficiency test materials contain information that would not be
helpful in preparing for the new achievement tests, all proficiency test
materials still on library shelves should be removed at this time, with =
the
exception of ninth grade proficiency test materials, which should be =
removed
following September 2008 test period.

All students will now be taking the new state achievement tests based on
Ohio=92s Academic Content Standards. Additional information on the =
standards
is available at the Ohio Department of Education Website
www.ode.state.oh.us/academic_content_standards/=20

The testing schedule is available at
www.ode.state.oh.us/proficiency/proficiency/dates2005-06.asp=20

Various Academic Content Standards publications are available for purchase
from the Ohio Department of Education, an order form is currently =
available
online at www.infohio.org/documents/ODEOrderForm.doc=20

Thank you to the library community in its continued support of Ohio =
student
academic achievement.
