To Ohio Children's Librarians:

I received a message through the ALSC list related to a website
http://www.libsci.sc.edu/facst/walling/bestfolder.htm

which addresses issues related to disabilities put out by Linda Lucas
Walling, retired Professor from the College of Library and Information
Science at the University of South Carolina.

Linda has put together an impressive website with information on a
variety of topics including:

*         Evaluating Materials
<http://www.libsci.sc.edu/facst/walling/evaluatingmaterials.html>

* Ability, Disability, and Picture Books
<http://www.libsci.sc.edu/facst/walling/abilityandbooks.html>

* Picture Books About Children with Disabilities
<http://www.libsci.sc.edu/facst/walling/Booksaboutchildrenwithdisabiliti
es.html>

*         Bibliographies

*         Bibliotherapy

There is much more on this site well worth the surfing, especially if
you have an interest in library service to this audience.

In addition to the website, Linda has started a blog on this topic for
interested librarians. You can post comments to the site as well as lurk
for information. This site is:
http://materialsforchildrenwithdisabilities.blogspot.com
<http://materialsforchildrenwithdisabilities.blogspot.com/>

I think that both the website and blog are filling a need to offer
information and resources for library service to the disabled child.

Hope you find this information useful.

Sincerely,

Ruth Metcalf
