How Libraries Can Create Public Value

Imagine you're shopping for a new car. What kind would you choose and why?
Companies are interested in the "why" part of your answer, not the "what."
They build cars around the things that you value in a new car, whether it's
safety or aesthetics. Public administrators don't usually focus on the
"why." Professor Mark Weinberg proposes that public and non-profit
organizations and political leaders need to focus on what is of value in
developing public programs. Based on the research of Harvard University's
Mark Moore, author of Creating Public Value: Strategic Management in
Government, Dr. Weinberg will take us on a spirited but grounded journey
that empowers library administrators and managers to think and operate as
strategists. He will enlighten us with the elements of a "strategic
triangle" that work together so that libraries know how to measure the value
their agencies create. This workshop is part of the CAMLS Annual Meeting.
All are welcome.
