This is the Eighteenth year for Ohio's popular Youth Services Symposium.
This two-day conference, to be held in two locations in Ohio, will focus
on those children who are learning to read and the various levels of
books to recommend to parents and children, depending on reading levels.
Keynote presenter will be Herman Parish, author of the Amelia Bedelia
readers. Also to be presented are literacy connections and gains for
children from the use of music and storytelling. Penny Neef, youth
services coordinator at West Bloomfield Township Public Library will
discuss what books and skills are needed at each level of the reading
acquisition process and how your library can partner with parents and
schools to support beginning readers by maintaining a collection of
"just right" books for each level. In addition add the Wow! factor to
your story presentations with Handmade Tales. Author and Award-winning
Storyteller Dianne de Las Casas coaches participants on creating
innovative string stories, cut and tell, draw and tell, and fold and
tell tales.
