[OPLINLIST] Special meeting: April 24: Libraries affected by the SIRSI decision re: Horizon 8.0

Dear Library Directors and staff: 

 

The State Library and OPLIN will be holding a meeting at the State
Library on APRIL 24, 10:30 -12:30 for all library staff affected by the
recent decision by SIRSI regarding Horizon 8.0. and any library
directors or staff interested in discussing the options (pros and cons)
of Open Source ILS.  Stephen Hedges and I will be in attendance as well
as David Namiotka, director of IT here at the State Library.  

 

This meeting is being organized in response to a request by a library
system administrator whose library is greatly affected by the SIRSI
announcement.  This will provide librarians with an opportunity to: 

 

1)     discuss what their future plans are regarding upgrades to their
automation systems;

 

2)       hear from Stephen Hedges regarding his experience with Open
Source ILS;

 

3)       share their thoughts on the feasibility of Open Source as an
alternative to traditional vendor-provided ILS.

 

In compliance with the recent Executive decision regarding the provision
of food at state agency meetings, lunch will NOT be provided at this
meeting.
