Two Workshops on Children's Programming Ideas

February 15th at the Muskingum County Library System:

John McIntire Library, Zanesville.

Bringing Boys Into the Library

How can libraries attract boys to programs? Create programs based on Howard
Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. MI theory states that people
learn in eight different ways. Amy Brown and Molly Meyers from the
Worthington Public Library System will show participants how to create
programs using these intelligences by highlighting several successful
programs that have a large boy audience. You will leave this program with an
understanding of boys and literacy, multiple intelligences, and how to take
topics you already love and create programs that attract boys. 9:30- 11:30.

Cost: Free to libraries with an Enhanced Membership to SERLS. $20 for all
other library staff. Morning refreshments provided. Lunch is on your own.

Using Puppets in Story Time

Puppets can add a fun element to any storytime, but can also be a challenge
for even the most experienced children's librarians. If you've always wanted
to try puppets in your storytime, or you just want to brush up on your
technique, then this is the workshop for you. Cathy Williams and Todd
Grazier of the Columbus Metropolitan Library will be teaching participants
how to successfully use puppets in their storytimes. This hands-on workshop
will give participants the opportunity to break into groups and practice
their puppeting techniques, then use their creativity to make their own
puppet to keep! 12:30- 4:00

Cost: Free to libraries with an Enhanced Membership to SERLS. $35 for all
other library staff.
