POSITION: 		Coordinator Volunteer & Literacy Services
AGENCY: Administration Main
PAY GRADE 3:	Minimum $38,454.55 Exempt			JOB
CODE: ADME3VLC
		
HOURS:  FULL TIME (40) Hours.  Schedule will rotate and will include
evenings, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to meet the needs of the
Library.  May require a six-day workweek and may include assignment at
any Agency.

filled

POSITION PURPOSE: Develops, administers and coordinates the effective
system wide recruitment and use of volunteer talents as a community
resource that supplements and complements those of the Library staff.
Plans, coordinates, supervises, organizes and directs the literacy
services of the library.

SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.	Plans and coordinates with the Assistant Director of Public
Services & Union Relations input, the effective use of volunteer talent
and services for the branches, departments, functions and programs.
Assesses volunteer staffing requirements and makes recommendations on
volunteer staffing needs, new volunteer programs, or improvements in
existing programs to the HR Coordinator.
2.	Actively recruits volunteers for all library branches,
departments and programs.  This includes designing recruitment
materials, recruitment strategies and coordinates with staff and
volunteers in the planning and implanting of recruitment activities.
3.	Assist in developing the Volunteer Policy and Procedural Manual,
and Volunteer Handbook.  Stays informed on new volunteer approaches,
legislative, legal, and risk-management issues in the use of volunteers.
4.	Assists in developing and implementing goals, objectives,
policies, programs, procedures, and work standards for library literacy
services.
5.	Oversees and supervises selection and review of library literacy
materials and resources.
6.	Plans, coordinates, supervises and conducts literacy special
events and participates in library special events as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

*	Significant knowledge of volunteer administration principles and
practices necessary to manage a volunteer services program.  
*	Experience in or knowledge of library environment is a plus. 
*	Knowledge of volunteer recruitment and program marketing
techniques.
*	Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with diverse staff, managers, volunteers and
representatives of outside agencies.  
*	Excellent verbal, written, analytical and problem solving
skills; ability to exercise sound independent judgment finding practical
solutions in a variety of personnel and program situations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

*	Bachelor's Degree in communications, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.  A masters in library science
for an ALA accredited university is highly preferred
*	 Administrative experience in public service work, preferably in
a public library
