is the Director of Digital Library and Information Technologies (DLIT) 
<http://www.library.cornell.edu/dlit> at the Cornell University Library. 
DLIT has responsibility for planning, implementing, and providing 
technical support for digital library initiatives, including creation 
and management of digital collections and e-publishing programs. She 
also coordinates the library's Digital Consulting and Production 
Services <http://dcaps.library.cornell.edu>, which is an enterprise unit 
with the goal of offering integrated planning and production services in 
support of digital library initiatives. She has a diverse background in 
digital libraries, including managing the creation and maintenance of 
digital collections, conducting research on imaging and digital 
preservation, implementing content management systems, planning 
entrepreneurial library initiatives, and conducting usability studies. 
She has a B.S. in Economics, an M.P.A., and an M.S. in Information Systems.


      Description

The second part of the seminar will focus on development of best 
practices and guidelines to help workshop participants in overseeing 
effective and efficient projects. Setting realistic goals, assessing and 
understanding the resources requirements, stakeholder analysis, and 
benchmarking for different phases of the project will be examined with 
examples. Also included in the second part will be business planning 
including service model development, fiscal management, communication 
plan, assessment and evaluation.

* What are the project management principles that will help to reduce risks?
* What is the role of stakeholder analysis?
* How can building basic business planning skills help in digital 
library programs?
* What are the "commonly made mistakes" and how would one avoid such traps?
* What are the most commonly made mistakes in developing and managing 
digitization initiatives?
* What can we learn from success stories?

      Audience

This presentation is designed for librarians, digitization operation 
managers, and information professionals who are interested in sharpening 
their skills in planning, managing, and assessing digitization projects. 
Although technical background in digital library development will be 
useful, the workshop will take a managerial approach and will not assume 
any hands-on experience with technologies. However, familiarity with 
digitization initiatives will provide good background for this presentation.
